Lots of ice crystals (each roughly 1mm wide) formed on the surfaces of bramble leaves in the freezing cold and damp. More ice crystals on the top of a fence post.

Interesting cloudscapes in Greenford on the 5th. Pictures taken from my desk in the office facing roughly SW. Uh oh here we go again. This is the longest cold snap now for almost 30 years! On the 6th it snowed all day, quite heavy at times. 5-10cm here but further west out of town a foot or more fell in places. My motorbike was marooned in the garage for almost 2 weeks as it was too icy to ride safely. But it was so pretty though! Views from my bedroom window as snow built up rapidly through the day.

The next day I made it to work. Looking out the office window at sunrise. The snow did reveal most interestingly loads of fox tracks. Not normally seen this evidence shows how numerous they are. Frozen 'Main Lagoon' pond at Paradise Fields at lunchtime. Coots and a heron congregating around an ice hole. Arty shot of a snow capped teasel stem.

A frozen looking Horsenden Hill. 'Upper Pond' as seen from the Paradise Fields trail. Snow covered brambles. Approaching the bridge over the canal. Looking Southwards from the canal bridge I spotted some nutter testing the ice.

Looking the other way along the canal and around to the East along the path ahead. More snow covered vegetation. Into sun view showing snow forming tufts over longish grass. Sledgers on the north slope of Horsenden Hill.

HorsendenHillViewWest.jpg
Sledgers on the north slope of Horsenden Hill. An unusually red spectacular sunset from the office window. No doubt aerial ice crystals helped redcden it. 6 days after the snow storm, looking West from the summit of Horsenden Hill. A well used sled run methinks!

Fresh snow fell on week old snow overnight. So I returned to Horsenden Hill. The wooded path linking Bramstones Green South and Great Bramstones fields. Arty shot of snow clinging to a plant.
